Silver dimensions

Dresses finally have some personality, after a decade of minimalist gowns and designers who claimed, "The focus is on the fabric." The 21st century wedding dress is full of dimension. The favored silhouette still has clean, simple lines (the '80s pouf and fouf should never return). But ornamentation -- be it colored lace, beads or ribbon -- is now part of the bridal dress package.

As is that favorite element, silver.  "There's something about the glitter of silver that seems to be in this year," said Roseanna Martino of The Altered Bride, who has created the Millennium Dress, a silver silk organza creation with embroidered crystals and silver crocheted lace on the skirt. Of course, a little glitter goes a long way.  Martino said most brides are opting for silver threading or platinum lace trim on a traditional white or ivory dress.
