Elegant Bride
Fall/Winter 2002
FROM HEAD TO TOE, brides today are turning their sights to accessories that lend a special sparkle to their Big Day. Exquisite crystals, pearls, lace and florals
are adding a regal flair to complement any bridal ensemble. "Brides
are going for a touch of dazzle," says Roseanna Martino, owner of
The Altered Bride in Boston, especially to accent this seasons
simple, slim silhouettes…
Under The Veil
And, color is making an appearance on bridal veils as well. At the
Altered Bride, Martino is creating specialty blush veils, including
a red veil accented with rose petals…
Jewels For The Hair
…With accessories for the hair, brides-to-be are looking for something with a little staying power that can be worn again after the big day. Again, color makes an impact here in baby blues, pinks and rich lavenders, as well as metallics, ranging from gold to platinum. Ornate hairpins embellished with pearls and crystals provide a fashionable, glamorous finish for chic updos,
says Martino.
Simple Choices
…Today’s bride has a minimalist approach to jewelry, especially if
she is wearing a tiara. The tiara becomes the focal point, and the
other jewelry should be added to enhance but not over power. Best
bet is to stick to a very simple necklace, "maybe a solitaire
necklace, or two or three stones on a chain," says Martino…
The Hands Have It
Brides may be reluctant about hiding a prewedding manicure, but this season’s gloves are definitely worth wearing for classic elegance. Long, opera-length silks and satins have made their way down the aisle, due in part to the popularity of strapless gowns. The gloves finish off the gown in style. "They are also a way to cover up during the religious ceremony," says Martino.
